Guys,

I have two OMC service manuals(one for 1984 and the other for 1988) and one shows the cork gasket inserted into the valve body first and the other one shows the thermostat inserted first and the cork gasket over the top.

Can both be correct?

My 78 and 86 service manuals show the cork gasket going into the valve body first-then the thermostat on top. Many of the online parts diagrams show it reversed. Probably does not make any difference. I'd be inclined to put the cork gasket in the valve body first-that way there is a gasketed surface on both sides of the lip of the stat.

Thanks for checking. The hardcopy manuals I have are from OMC.
