Correct bolts for removing flywheel

73 Johnson seahorse 6hp: i have rented a harmonic balancer removal kit from my local auto parts supplier. There are no markings on the bolts. Is there a way to determine the grade of the bolts?

You want grade 8 bolts/washers. 1/4" x 20 tpi. Normally gold in color.

No markings generally mean cheap, low quality bolts, like from Home Depot. Grade 5 have three hash marks, Grade 8 have 6 hash marks.

Yes you have to use grade eight or you will break cheap types. BTDT... Most hardware store have such offerings so no too hard finding them. Even auto part stores can have them... JMHO!
