Correct cam for tohatsu 9.9-->15HP conversion

Hi ,

I'd like to convert my 2006 Tohatsu M9.9D2 2-stroke outboard to the 15hp version by changing the throttle advance cam.
On Internetoutboards, there are cams for serials above or below 71413.
My serial is 004271XF, Model 2006, M9.9D2 - the serial looks just different than the 5 digit number above.

Am I correct in that I need the cam for serials below 71413?

Here is a picture of the current cam. This is taken in "no gas" position. The wheel that is supposed to touch the cam only connects at about "half gas" and actually moves just before full throttle.

You can convert M9.9D2 to 15D2 by swapping cams, must order part N? 3M3-63718-0. Must disconnect ball joint from coil plate to move plate sideways to change cam. According to service manual 9.9D2 comes with timming mark factory set to stop at 20?, 15D2 stops at 25? mark, if so, will need to advance coil plate 5? to right by means of turning stopper A CCW untill mating surfaces reaches 25? on flywheel mark, dont forget to secure screw nut once at correct stopping position.

Check cam/carb rod opens carb butterfly to 180? at wot, if so, ok, if less will need to readjust carb rod height by means of nut to achieve this position. Once adjusted, white roller must turn freely with fingers when cam has reached it's highest end top wot position, re adjust height slightly if needed to avoid throttle arm/roller over actuation. With new cam and +5? timing, your new min and max parameters for a updated 15 D2 model will be : 5200-5800 rpm at wot. Let us know if it worked for you as expected.

Do yourself a good favor, apply a generous over dose of W-40 with brush to entire engine, a pity it looks so rusty...

Yes. The correct part is 3M3637180M. Your 8-digit serial (with the 2 letters) is in fact the modern numbering system, and is newer than the old 5-digit number system.

I bought the motor in August together with a Pioner 15.
Seawater and all year round use must have had its effect. Will take good care for it

I have seen the pictures posted above but the mark to set the timing to seems very poorly made.
My outboard is a tohatsu 9.9 d2 from 2004 and some previous owner/mechanic have installed to 15hp cam and the throttle is absolutely opening 180 degrees.

The timing though, it's looks like 22-23 ish?
Hard to tell.

Should you measure from the center of the marker or left/right?
