Purchased my first boat and motor and I am enjoying working on it. But I'm getting a little confused when trying to get the correct parts. For example, went to a local repair shop to get a carb repair kit, but the 98 model wasn't listed. This forum directed me to a mercruiser sight (Thanks) and I ordered the parts I needed. (Hope it's correct) Earlier I ordered an impeller repair kit from iboats and the kit arrived yesterday. I have the repair manual for force outboards, but depending on what lower unit you have governs the instructions. I have doubled checked the part number and serial number range they have listed for a 98-99 40 hp and it checks out. But when I go to the exploded view at the mercruiser sight they don't have the same gaskets shown as the one I received. Another sight doesn't have the 98-99 model listed at all, stops at 97. The kit I have reads for a 18, 20 and 25 hp, but the kit (#3215)is listed as the same for up to 60hp on the part #'s at the sight I ordered from. This is my first replacement and just trying to know if I have the correct kit before I go into it. It seems that the 98-99 models are a different breed. Guess I'll know when I take it apart, but wondering why this model is giving me confusion when I go to get parts. The engine runs great, but just needs some regular maintenance. Maybe it's just me, new to it all. Any comments or the part# on this impeller kit would be appreciated.

That's kind of a tuff one to sort out without seeing what's what. Bought the only thing you can do is compare parts to be sure.
Or maybe someone who knows the motor will happen along and guide you along.
Pictures can help alot on solving problems! Do you have any you can post here?

Havn't actually pulled the l/u yet, but will let all know what I find. This is all coming together as I work on it, it's just aggravating when you can find parts for all the makes and models but yours, and when you do, they are conflicting #'s and diagrams. If anyone knows the actual part # for this impeller kit, please let me know. Thanks for your help!

As I was told, I recommend before you do anything you buy a service manual, parts manual and the electrical manual. In my parts manual it has pictures of every single part of my engine and the part number. I have a old 1971 Chrysler 55HP. So when I call, if they do not carry the Chrysler part, they can cross reference the part number to any other manufacturer that carries the part I need. Since all have different part number for the same part.
