As the name implies I have a 89 model Mako 240 25ft in length. Can anyone tell me the correct length of the shifter cabes for this boat. I know I can take them off and measure them(been there and done that)but that dosen't mean these are the correct length. This shifter is harder than normal to shift and I believe the cables are too long. The last ones I bought were 25ft in length, if that is right that is fine but I want to make sure I am replaceing them with the correct ones and not just something that will work. Thanks in advance!!! TAZ

Re: Correct length of shifter cables

Before replacing the one that you have you need to check to see if it is adjusted properly. To do that disconnect the cable at the engine and put both the shift lever on the engine in neutral and the shift lever at the helm. See if they align properly on the engine. Shift both to forward and then to reverse checking alignment at both positions. Adjust accordingly. If you need to get a new one call Mako & ask them for the proper length.

Thanks SoLittle, the plastic end of the cable that fits on the linkage cracked so replacement is a must. I believe what I have is correct after looking around I found a site that showed how to measure for them. Thanks again, TAZ

If you are not sure of the actual length, look closely at the cable and you may find it printed or embossed on the housing about every foot or two.
