I have a little lifter tap and the guy at the marina told me to try some Mercruiser oil to quiet it down. My manual says to run mecruiser oil or a quality 30 weight oil. It says do not run a multi viscosity oil. I bought some mecruiser oil and noticed it was 25 40. Did I get the right stuff or is all mercruiser oil multi viscocity. It is an 81 120 with a GMC 153.

Re: Correct oil

Might have a look at the Merc FAQ section on Oils.

looks like 25w40 mercruiser oil superseeds all other oil recomendations....least that's the way i read it.......
