Correct prop? 88' 120

All,<br />I need some advice on the correct prop or is there a bigger problem. I have a 88' 120 evinrude (rebuilt in 03' good compression across the board and seems to run great) on the back of a 19' cuddy cabin think the boat weight is about 5000lbs. I think my WOT should be around 5500 RPM. I was running a 13X19 AL, WOT 4900rpm at 30mph. Bought a new 13 1/4 X 17 AL, WOT 5200rpm at 35mph. (Hit something in the ocean this last weekend and destroyed it). I need to buy a new prop and wonder if I should drop down to a 15 pitch or is there something wrong with this motor.<br />Jonah

At 5,000 lbs your pushing alot of weight.<br /> Im not an expert but you could certainly go down another 2 inches just watch the max. RPM.<br /> Even if the boat was only 4,000 lbs. you would be pushing a lot of weight.With the new prop you<br />could probably throttle back and cruise faster than your original prop wide open and your motor will be happier.

Your target rpm is 6000 with an average load. Play with the set up to gain rpm and efficiency.<br /><br />I would, as suggested, go with a 15" and adjust the set up. Its a lot easier and efficient to add bite than try to take it away.<br /><br />Good luck!
