Yes, thats a Bass Cat in the picture, an older one of course (1977) but its a good fishing boat.
Near bullet proof, and I am not afraid to take it anywhere like shallow coves to fish. I have buddies with new boats that are so particular about their boats that they are afraid to fish them in shallow waters or stuff like that. Of course if I had payed $30 plus thousand dollars for mine I would probably be more particular too.
I only paid $500 for this rig, and have caught just as many fish in it as they have in their new boats. ;)

Lol! I hear ya about the 30K deal! Fish have a hard time knowing stuff like that.

I was just wondering. A few years ago the company I was working for sent me to Bass Cat to test drive their boats with some new steering components. Nice boats, nice folks there.

I am sold them, and yea the fish dont know the difference. :D
Was that hydraulic steering units? Just wandering. I would be little nervous about driving a boat across the lake at 50 plus mph with hydraulic steering.

Ok Dhadley, I raised the motor to the top hole tonight, but I wont have a chance to take the boat out until Monday. As a reminder, the motor was on the boat when I bought it and this is the first adjustments I have made. However, the boat is a 1977 model while the motor is a 1974, so obviously it didnt come on it, therefore any changes made are not from a dealer set up.
Anyhow, I have another question. While working I noticed once I moved up the motor, there is a bolt that slides through at the bottom of the mount that stops the motor in the full down position. There is also a pin there you can remove and adjust to different holes. The pin is on the inside set of holes closet to the back of the boat and cant be removed with out moving the tilt and trim cylinders, so somebody just used a long bolt and nut and moved it out further. After all this rambling, here is what I am wandering. When the motor is in the full down position, should the lower unit be parallel to the back of boat (which the back of mine slopes inward) or should the engine be in a straight upright position? Does that make sense what I am asking? I hope so.
Sorry about the long post, but sometimes it takes that.

Try your boat out for a test before changing anything else to see what the height adustment did for you. After that I'd think pulling the bolt that limits trim in could help. Being able to tuck the motor right under helps my holeshot a lot, but I need to begin trimming out almost as soon as I hit the throttle. And you may not need the plastic foil on there either after you get the height and trim adjusted right!

Not to butt-in here, but I think Dhadley will agree with me on the fact that usually less trim is required in BOTH directions when at the highest mounting points...
I hate to hear bolts are installed in place of the tilt-pin..That's a huge torsional load on those bolts...the pin going clear through unloads the biggest part of that load.

Walleyehed, the bolt is a solid bolt that goes all the way through not one on each side. Sorry I didnt make myself clear about that. I plan on taking it out and just using the pin, but I will have to remove the tilt cylinder to get it out, and just havent done it yet.

CalicoKid, that makes sense about the holeshot being faster with the tilt pin (I am learning to call boat parts by their name thanks to people on here) all the way in.

Re: Correct Prop Pitch? Updated: with pictures

Well I finally had a chance to take the boat today after raising the engine the highest hole.
The rpms didnt change, they stayed at 5,000 at wot. The speed however dropped to 39? (strange)
I did notice the holeshot seemed a little faster, but still not as fast as it could be. Overall it seemed like less drag on the boat. It also appeared that the wake was bigger?
As I mentioned before, somebody had added an extra bolt where the trim pin goes. Its in the third hole, which doesnt allow the motor its full range of operation. The hole shot could be faster, so I am going to experiment with this.
The original trim pin is in the first hole(closest to the hull) but I will have remove the tilt cylinder to get it out.

Any other suggestions welcome.
Thanks.
