I have a 70's vintage ez-loader that the previous owner had 14" wheels on. My concern is there is a "u" shaped tube at the rear that I believe is for attaching a transom saver to that has only about 6" clearance to the ground. Is this correct or should there be 15" wheels on this thing?

I only have 13 inch wheels on my E-Z loader.

Re: correct wheels for ez-loader

I have two of these right now.

My old one is on 15" wheels but has the rollers on some kind of flip up system.

My newer one (at least newer to me) is on 13" wheels and the rollers are fixed.

Only launched and recovered the new one 3 times and have not tried at the lake the gave me all my problems with the older one. I do notice there is more of a difference in the loaded boat height than can be explained by the tire size difference, but I think I am going to swap the tires and keep the 15". I'm planning on selling the other trailer once I get the boat junked.

And what is that big U-shaped bar for anyway? It is on both of mine but I can't figure out it's purpose.

Oh, and to pull the one with 13" tires, I use a drop hitch. Something else I need to change out as this one is too much of a drop for my setup.

Oh the joys of a new-to-me boat.

The previous owner of this rig was very "creative", the u shaped tube pointed forward, and since I couldn't find a place to attach my transom saver I turned it to the rear. Seemed logical at the time, maybe I'm the one getting "creative".

Both of mine point forward, but that's not a bad idea.
