Corrision inhibitors

My 1995 150"s had a wax like light amber coating sprayed on them. I dont know if the previous owner did it or the dealer (one owner boat).

Anyone have any idea what the heck this stuff was. I rebuilt the engine and would like to re-coat it. The original stuff worked well, neither engine has any corrosion under the cowl.

The corrosion control stuff is available in several brand namess. One of them is "Boeshield". You can also get some made by West Marine callled "Corrosion inhibitor". Make sure you read the label, so you do not buy stuff similar to WD-40 or CRC-56, which is penetrating oil, and is unsuitable.

Mercury corrosion guard is my favorite use it at work and around the house lasts for years but leaves a sticky clear film

I use the Yamaha Corrosion Protectant in a spray can which goes on like a waxy grease and sticks very well, especially in the tilt and trim motor and pump areas that get such a soaking all the time. The tilt motor is painted plain steel and prone to rust, I've never understood why that item isn't made of stainless steel. Another good protectant is the spray can of white lithium grease and cheaper than the Yamaha product, I use the grease on trailer lug nuts after installation and no corrosion at all. Good Luck!

I like the aerosol motorcycle chain oil. In a black and red can, Champion (as in spark plugs) brand. Sprays on but is very sticky and thick and really hangs on and does not run.
As if it was on a motorcycle drive chain whizzing around at 100mph.

Mine is really like wax. You can dig your finger into it. It can be gouges out with your fingernail. When the engine is hot it gets softer and it's not the slightest bit oily.

With oil based products I'd be concerned about the effect on the wirings insulation.

I also use MERCURY QUICKSILVER corrosion guard. Its basically an oil/ wax product like the old ZIEBART anti corrosion on cars. Never had an issue with it affecting wires or hoses. Good product, use it on a lot of things. FRED

I got mine locally at a municipal supply house.
