Rodbolt any suggestions on my previous email about corrosion on block where heads were pulled & cleaned?

can ya post a picture of it? it happens with saltwater motors occasionally.<br /> never had much success with epoxy, usually the aluminium corrodes out from under it.

I brought it to a mechanic, so I cannot get pictures at this time. I wanted to get a second opinion. He is recommending we epoxy, new block or scrap it. Could it be welded? Any other suggestions?

Like rodbolt, I would have no faith in welding it. Epoxy is the same way. Hard to stop corrosion once it gets started and very likely to continue after covering over it.

I went by the shop at lunch. There is a small (pea size) hole, looks similar to a dent, in the very bottom of the block. The mechanic said he has used Marine Tex on these before & 65 to 70% of the time they hold for sometimes up to 3 years. It hard to imagine such a small amount of corrosion could kill this thing. He said he will build up behind the hole about 1/8 of an inch thick & 1 inch in & apply a small amount of Marine Tex to the head gasket over the affect area. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your input.

Hawk, I know these guys recommend to not use a corroded block. And if I had it to do all over again I don't think I would either. I am just finishing up on a rebuild of my 150 2 stroke where my machinist commented that "this is one of the better blocks he's seen" as far as corrosion, yet it required 2 welds to seal several holes. <br />Crossing my fingers and would like to get 2 years out of it...<br />You may wish to look over some of my early-on tear-down pics by clicking here. and compare to your block.<br />Good luck.<br />PS. i tried Marine Tex twice and that overpriced stuff didn't harden for me.
