Hi guys;

Took my SS prop off to pollish it and I find this corrosion behind it. Is this a big deal and what should I do about it.

Thanks Don, now that you mention it, that makes perfect sense. I saw the screws but it didn't occur to me that it was a anode.

thanks.......

Take the anode out, clean it, grease the screws and put it all back... Good to go....

I had the same fear when I bought my boat. Once I replaced them it looked like new.

You might want to replace the rear seal, while your prop is off, and replacing the anode. Cheap insurance on that seal replacment.

Of course there is the theory . . . if it ain't broke . . . .

If you are a fresh water boater (which I assume), then the anodes should last a few years. There should be some other anodes on the cavitation plate and trim cylinders.

Us salt water folks are replacing them every year . . .

I agree^^^^, but! If the seal gets dirt, or grit, on the lip, it will cut a groove in the shaft. I would at least, clean it good, and squirt some oil around the lip area. I hate it when a dollar part, causes a $100 part to fail. Again, just my .0002.

You can't just pop out the old seal and put a new one in, you have to remove the carrier to replace that seal.
