Hi Guys,

Just wondering what some of you may use to keep corrosion from developing on the trolling motor plug? I have the Perko covered plug on my toon and every time I go to plug in the motor, it has that good old green crap on the terminals inside the plug. I've tried Marine grease and a few other things and nothing seems to keep it from gunking up. The plug is only about a year old and it looks like it's 10. Doesn't get wet or anything. Just condensation. Any ideas on some good stuff to use??? Thanks,

Ahoy, Rick.

Have you tried a coat of WD-40? Your situation is the same as the one that WD-40 was developed to solve.

Good luck. :)

Hi JB,

I tried the WD-40 approach and it still didn't help. I would spray it on there when I got home from an outing and the next time I was ready to go out, same thing. Not sure what to do with it. Seems like it traps the condensation in the plug, as it has no drain of course, then it starts to oxidize again. Can't believe others all have this problem.

You might try what I do with my trailer wiring connector.

I got a spare plug, cut the wires off of it and plug it into the pigtail anytime my trailer is not hooked up.

Damn good idea, JB. That's the kinda thinkin' I like! And I just happen to have that part sitting in my garage. I'm gonna put a little marine grease on there and plug in in. Thanks for the advice. Never would have thought of it....
