corrosion pitting on gasket surface?

A follow up question to my paint question...

There is some corrosion pitting on the gasket surface of the gear housing for the impeller housing gasket. I want to prep this and paint it properly, and per the mercstuff.com site, I need to sand/remove the material down to the bottom of the pit. However if I do this, the gasket will not seal properly. Is there some product that I can fill the depressions with (like bondo?), or what other options do I have?

Thanks!

It Sounds like you're Over Due for a New Housing...........

That surface requires a Machined Surface,.........Not Dremeled........
I Really Doubt you'll Ever stop That Leak........ :(

What type of gasket sealer would be recommended? Quicksilver Perfect Seal?

Here are the pics, sorry for the size. I couldn't shrink them down enough and still be able to see the defects. The worst spot (by far!) is in the upper right corner, and this is not a spot that needs to be sealed. The second pic is a close-up of that spot for reference. The other spots can probably even be filled with paint.

Loctite 515 will work fine. Most autoparts stores can get it. Fills gaps up to .050

515
Or 518 will work well also.

518

You could use a good metal based epoxy. Clean really well, apply epoxy, then sand smooth. Those corrosion areas don't look too deep, so you should be able to get away with a strong filler and sanding smooth.

Rick
