Cost of Merc water pump replacementy

Looks like I'll need a new water pump on my 25 HP Mercury 2-cycle motor. What is a windshield estimate on the cost of this please?

Is there any chance the motor was damaged when the pump failed?

Cost depends on who is doing the work. Parts will probably cost less than $100 for a full pump R & R. What is the serial number? If a shop does the work, probably triple or more. Not faulting shops - They need to eat and pay employees/overhead.

Did it hurt the motor? It depends on how long before you knew it was hot and what you did then.

Do a compression test first before you spend the money. If it is a mercury designed motor they do not like to be overheated.
