Could it be a voltage regulator?

I have a 1986 Regal Sebring with a Mercruiser 170hp motor. My gauge for my battery is just a tick above complete 0. I can run the boat fine with no issues for approxiametly 6 uses. I noticed that when i push the button for the trim the battery gauge dips even lower. After the 6 uses the battery usually dies. I replaced the battery with a new one and still the same results. I then put an ohm meter on the battery while the boat was running and it displayed a lower then optimum reading. I looked to see if I could see an alternator on my boat but it appears I do not have an alternator. I believe it is a magneto of sorts. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

It's either an alternator that you cant find or maybe this magneto style (I'm not familiar with your boat)

Regardless, 2 things come to mind, 1. replace the unit that charges the battery or 2. you have a bad ground...somehwere

Do yo have the manual for your boat?

thats the 470 rotor/stator charging system. best to convert to a std alt and belt. a lot cheaper that your stator/ watercooled reg system

Re: Could it be a voltage regulator?

Thanks for the suggestions and I think I may convert to an alternator, I think all my problems are attributed to a friend borrowing my boat and hooking the terminals up backward on the battery and running it for the day. Since then this is were the problems started .
