Could multiple problems be linked?

I have a 2004 Volvo Penta 5.0 L Gxi-E that has two seperate problems. The first problem is the engine is being starved for gas. It'll run fine for a few minutes and then it starts idling roughly and eventually stalls. Itll take 10 or 15 trys to get it cranked again and when it does it run right for a few minutes and then start idling rough again and stall. I got it running for a few minutes and got the boat on plane at around 2000 - 2500 RPMS im guessing and then the engine began overheating. The alarm sounded and the engine cut back power. When it was running on reduced power, the temerature lowered back to normal. Can anyone diagnose this? Are the problems seperate or are they linked? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I would say seperate. Ran into that same running prob 2 weeks ago, turned out the anti-siphon valve was plugged with debris from fuel tank. And you are prob due for a water pump impeller.

I just had the fuel pump replaced. It was doing the same thing before with the rough idle, stalling and whining pump. I checked the impeller out and its brand new so its not the problem.

Re: Could multiple problems be linked?

i would suggest that the two problems are related because if the engine is starving for fuel it will develop a lean condition which causes it to heat up fix the fuel issue and i bet the engine wont run hot at speed but thats just my opinion ... good luck
