Could somebody please help me?

I have a 70 hp mercury,3 cyl. 1986 model. The control box is a Quicksilver. This winter I had the pistons replaced, new gaskets, and also a water pump kit installed. The motor runs but when I tried to use it I found that the gears somehow became reversed. When I put the control in forward the motor is in reverse. Will this hurt the motor? Also my motor is now locked down in forward gear and pops up in reverse. I cannot spend any more on this motor is there any way I can fix this. Could the cotrol be changed? I disconected the shifter from the control box the gears are reversed on the motor.

Did you get someone elses left-hand lower unit when it was in the shop? the LU had to be dropped to service the water pump. This is warranty for sure.

The guy who installed the water pump should fix this. He has not got the shifter installed properly when he put the lower unit back on the power head.

Thanks for the quick answer. Are you saying I can fix this by removing the lower unit and changring something. I was under the impression that it splined on to the shifter shaft in only one position.
