Here goes.

I just purchased a 1979 Mako 23’ CC with a 92? Johnson 225hp, the bad news is it looks like this boat may have sat for along time…. Trim motor is completely desolved to dust!

It fired right up and I ran great idle to wot so I bought it. Just to be safe I threw in 20 gal of pre-mix 50:1 while I observed the vro.

I ran the boat 30min on Saturday until the hub spun. I then idled 10min to get to the beach to put on a spare prop. I used the relief screw to get the motor to tilt up. Put it on tested it 10min and went back to the beach. Then I used the relief screw to tilt the motor up again to check on the prop. Everything looked good, so I grabbed a beer and hopped in the water.

2 hours later I couldn’t get the motor to run. I could get it to fire a few times but couldn’t keep it running.

Bulb is firm
Put in new plugs
No Kill switch on this setup

It will fire and run on a shot of starting fluid of a few seconds so I am leaning toward a fuel problem.

Could tilting the engine up for the first time in years messed up the carbs / floats to the point of not running?

The fuel line goes in to the motor with out a connection. Could the torque on the line have caused an already old line to crack and suck air?

What direction should I start trouble shooting?

Mac
