Couple more boats and questions

Okay so first boat is a 1972 Seaswirl 25' cabin if I can remember the size correctly. I got some solid photos of it just can't for the life of me locate on CL again. I have been in contact with Owner and we neg time and price tomorrow. That is if it holds true. The bad about the boat it had engine problems and from he said his mechanic rebuilt the motor, two brand new marine batteries and misc fishing stuff to come with it. The other bad its OMC, OUCH! Yea hurts but have to ask anyhow and show you guys. Asking price was $3500 but he said he would take $2300 then, but now more like $2500 because he can show me that it runs. Here are the photos.

And newer and also owner I have made contact with will sell this one for $2500 two hours away from me but it does have 350 merc motor. He said it has been sitting for 3 years but according to the ad it runs, we see! Third photo I posted I think I see mold on that carpet so that is bad sign.

Get yourself a certified marine surveyor to take a close look, the couple hundred you will spend could save you thousands!! Without having someone very knowledgable to look at it you are taking a crapshot. Most of the time these crapshots do not work out when it comes to boats, way to much can be hidden..

Thanks for that information, might be rather difficult to do that though. If I were to be spending thousands of dollars by for more then the prices these are listed at I would consider that investment. I do agree with you just not sure that is goind go to work. I'm also taking into account that pictures will not fully explain its history and/or story.

Check the floors, go over the whole floor pushing and bouncing with your feet. If there is any soft floor spots, there is likely rot elsewhere. If any soft spots, run.

Shine a flash light down behind the motor and look at the bolts that hold the motor to the transom. If the washers are sinking in at all you have a rotten transom. Again, run.

Read in the restoration section and In here on ways to get an idea of how the transom is. In short, tap on it with something pretty hard and listen for a change of sound.

Take any boat to the water for a test drive before buying. Pull the engine cover off while running on the water. Look for leaks. Any water leaking from block, run.

You have a huge chance of rot in an older boat like that. Be careful as you can buy a big paper weight pretty easy.
