Ok guys first things first. We are running 25hp tohatsu's, 2 stroke, minor mods such as solid mounts etc. For an example of our racing conditions check this out http://forums.iboats.com/showpost.php?p=2098625&postcount=33

We broke our second driveshaft during training last week due a new crews lapse in thinking, are there any after market shafts out there or are there only tohatsu's stock replacement?

Secondly, spark plugs. What is the difference between the copper core marine plugs and the regular NGK plugs? (apart from the price )

Thirdly, The plug leads. Would a larger inner core (say anywhere between 8.8mm to 10mm) be a wise move?

No

In theory, better spark and less likely to corode in a sallt environment.

Pointless, but is will not hurt anything.

By the pics shown, no wonder why you have broken 2 drive shafts so far, seems you are you using prop guards attached to engine tails ?

yeah we are running prop guards, these boats when not racing are conducting surf patrol along the beaches so as a safety issue, prop guards must be installed which sap a bit of power unfortunatly.

I will get some copper core plugs from work and play with them for the hell of it. will revisit the timing on it as well

well testing has finished for this week, found that the copper core BR7HS-10 plugs will sit at 5700rpm for long periods, where as the BP7HS-10 plugs will reach mid to high 5800rpms but after about 2 min of flat out, will drop down to 5600rpm. Next question, i know the protruding tip plugs dont have the resister in them, what does it do, and should i combine the two and order a set of BPR7HS-10 plugs?

Edit, i remember reading about a 2 stroke oil that can be run at 100:1 yet still lubricates like a 50:1mix, what is the name of the oil? Thanks

It reduces radio frequency interference with the boats electronics...Sometimes...Sort of. Some countries require that new engines be sold with them as a stock engine, such as Canada.

No clue on your oil question.

Ah ok, no worries, as we dont run any additional electronics other than the motors ignition coil, the BP7HS-10 would be fine?

As for the oil, Amsoil Saber 2 stroke oil was the one i was thinking of, now to find a supplier in Australia

In return I'll point you in the right direction for a lean 2-stoke oil that the manufacture says it "allows the leanest oil & fuel ratio of any product on the market" http://www.redlineoil.com.au/product-information.asp

Oh, and don't try to run thicker leads it might get you in trouble

Are you able to shoot me through a link stating ignition leads must be stock, i havent been able to find anything stating otherwise, cheers. oh and they havent been altered anyway, it was just a thought so lets not spread false rumours hey

This seasons hasn't been issued yet but it won't change much if at all

In particular section 2 f)

All IRB equipment used in the SLSA Surf Sports competition arena must be in the ?out of-the-box form?. This is defined as to the original specifications, design and tolerances as it was manufactured. As such all equipment should be as supplied by the original manufacturer (not necessarily the retailer, detailer or end supplier). All equipment will be compared to non-modified manufacturers samples for the purpose of comparative scrutineering. The only permissible alterations to equipment outside this ?out of the box? form is detailed in the ?Modifications? section for each type of equipment.
