I recently got a sea king ( K900 5106 A ), late 70s i guess. anyway i really dont know anything about boat motors, but i figure as far as they go these old ones look pretty simple . so, it was running ok and hopefully still will be once i put it back in the water. ok as in i guess its normal to be really loud and vibrate alot. sometimes it seems like something changes and it will suddenly get louder, vibrate more, smoke more, without any increase in rpms. but maybe its just my imagination? I usually keep the holes in the leg for exhaust/water outlet covered as it keeps the noise down a pretty good ammount, and i figure what was coming out there simply comes out with the rest under water just above the prop. i get the feeling its a bad idea but maybe not.
i decided to take off the carburator and clean it , seems like it went fine, but now ill have to re adjust the hi and low any tips would be great on that, also wondering if anyone knows the plug gap. this is likely a stupid question, but should there be an air filter? theres just a plastic tube sortof thing that is attached to the intake. i have plenty more but my origional post dissappeared when i went to submit it, and i really need to post pics to help explain some of the other things anyway.
