i wouldn't listen to what telstar1 said souns like he has his own way of doing things way out there if you ask me. listen to what Don and Alpheus and others have said.
a motor out of alignment will wear out the coupler and you will be pulling the engine to install a new coupler. use the proper alignment bar.
its always better to do a job once then to have to do it twice.

seems to me someone is having trouble getting their bar in the hole so they have to go smaller
