I have an alpha 1 gen 2 (1997)on a 5.7 merc. I almost cant even feel the coupler grease fittings because of the engine position in the boat. Is it necessary to grease these or since I have the drive off can I just lube the splines? Does this grease go anywhere else in the coupling or just lube the shaft splines?

Thanks

Re: Coupler Grease Fittings

Just putting "Spline" grease on the shaft will work. One thing I do on any of them without the grease zirks is to put plenty of grease on the alignment bar, Push the bar straight in then twist on the way out. It help get grease to the back of the splines when the drive is installed.

Ok thanks for the reply. I didnt know if there was another component in the coupler that got lubed by the fittings or it was just the spline surfaces
