Re: cover or tarp

For those in areas that ecieve alot of snow. I advise that any time you brush off your car you take a minute to brush the snow off of your tarp. Keeping the weight of the snow down as much as possible will "greatly" improve the life of the tarp.

Perhaps more importantly, A tarp failing due to the weight of the snow is a major disaster.

I'm sure most of us already do this but I wanted to post this for any new boaters who think that just having a good support system for the cover is "good enough".

Re: cover or tarp

I have been through more tarps and cheap boat covers than I care to admit. Snow is a rare issue around here, but wind is constant and strong. I believe that $200-300 spent on a nice Sun**ella semi-custom cover is the best way to go. They last a long time, breath well while being waterproof, and are reinforced in the right areas (sharp corners). The fit allows for much less "propping" to keep the cover angled down. Yes, it costs a little more to begin with, but in the long run, easily pays for itself.

Re: cover or tarp

Good question, I have been using just my cover with some PVC support, but it is better quality then the wal-mart ones. this year I will throw a tarp over it also, it sounds like the tarp will let the snow slide off better ( and hope that the inside won't get damp).

Also, use 1/2 " pipe insulation to wrap sharp edges ( windsheld, cleats, etc) to protect the cover from getting holes in it. I did not do that, and now my cover has holes in it. :(
