Mornin People!
Not sure if I have already asked this question but I need a new rubber seal for the cover on my 40hp Bigtwin. I have looked around but cant seem to find anyone that can help. Is it still possible to get them, if not is there something that would do the job? This must be quite a common problem with all makes of older motors. Anyone got any ideas? :)

Re: Cover seal

Hiya Tich,

Don't know if it's available through a dealer, but I'm getting new seals for my cowl from a local rubber supply shop. Clark Rubber. You could probably find something similar over in your neck of the woods, they usually sell all sorts of rubber moulding and plastic bits. If you can find one, tack a sample of what you need to replace and they should be able to sort you out.

Re: Cover seal

Tich,

I had to replace the seal on a Mercury 25 recently and couldn't find one, so I did a bit of leteral thinking and found a supplier of rubber protection strip on ebay.

Postage is a bit steep but it is coming from Germany!
Seller is very helpful and delivery is quick (48 hours max!)
Was ideal for the engine.
I have also found other uses for the stuff left over!
Forms a very tight fit around the engine moulding and I reckon it will last for years longer than the original!
