Coverting 1984 35 from remote to tiller?

99.9% of my boating is done by fishing, and i think i could save a lot of space in my boat and have much better boat control if my motor were a tiller. What all is involved in converting a remote steer to a tiller, besides a new handle? Can the exiting throttle linkage work?

Honestly, is it really worth the cost to do, or are the parts to convert just to expensive and i should just look to sell this motor and get a different motor?

Thanks for the help!

In addition to the tiller, you would have to replace the steering bracket (the front carrying handle that your present steering connects to). Easier than it looks, but still not simple or cheap.

You can probably find the parts for a reasonable price, but it is a pain. I have a 1981 25 hp I'm considering converting since I have the parts, but it pretty much requires that you completely dismantle the outboard.

If you do convert. Make sure you get the right tiller arm and bracket. There are two types. Gear and cable control. Yours should have gears.
