Cowl seal compatibility

Hey all,

I have a 1977 70HP Evinrude, and the cowl seal (motor cover), is completely rotted and gone...

Searcing the BRP site, the original seal is NLA (part #0207595)... and I called a number of dealers to find one, and no one still has one on the shelf...

I worked backwards through the years, and the "oldest" engine I could find that still shows a seal available, is for the 84' (part #0209518).

My question is, would these be close enough compatibility? It doesnt even have to be 100% water tight, I just want something to hold the cover in place, I had thought the 70 HP 3cyl's were basically the same from like 75-95... so just wanted to check/confirm that you think this seal would work...

I'm really tired of my motor cover rattling around!

Thanks

Re: Cowl seal compatibility

The cowl seal for the 1977 Evinrude 70HP is not available, but the 1977 Johnson cowl seal is available (and in any color you want as long as it is black).

Part number 315985 superseded to 0329273.

DOH! Awesome!

Silly me didnt think to run through the Johnson side, I figured since the majority of the parts were the same, it would also be NLA.

Thanks for the info!

I don't care about the color!

If you want to save some time/money there is a fellow who replaced his with cut fuel line and it looked good. Do a search and maybe you will find it if interested. Rick.
