Cowling insulation

Is this insulation used for noise reduction? Could you replace with 1/4 foam insulation board? Mine after 14 years is breaking down bad and holding moisture. I can get 2 new pieces from Evinrude for big dollars minus the 3rd largest piece but was just wondering if any thing else could be used. mine is a 1998 e200txecm.

There are many options available. You can use anything that will deaden the sound waves and not get sucked into the carb or flywheel.

I would recommend, Nappa auto parts, They sell a nice dark grey foam that is fire retardant, cheap, and looks nice. I have also been told that foam from a crib mattress is fire retardant as well. cut it to fit-spray inside of cowl with 3m spray can glue.

How about that insulation that looks like silver bubblewrap? it won't absorb water and insulates pretty well.
