Looks like a coywolf to me, I have a couple of good friends that have been studying this hybrid for a number of years now, if it was a legal kill, I have no problem with it, wolves are creating quite a situation down here in Montana.

this certainly was a legal kill, in fact the government here pays $25 for any carcass to study it to see what they are eating .....I dont think they are eating birds and bugs and fieldmice to get that size as some envoiromentalists are suggesting .....in fact our caribou herds are declining since these coyotes are becoming more common.....next they will decimate our moose population.....then what will they turn to?

Newfoundland is certainly prime country for coyotes and wolves and other animals. I saw many coyotes when I lived there and they were definitely in their own league as far as size go. I believe you have a picture of a wolf kill and Newfoundland does not need that. I've also seen lynx the size of a big dog and I thought the first one I saw was a baby caribou. Such natural foods as a million rabbits, unlimited supply of spruce grouse, mice, moles certainly keep the coyote population healthy. And with a gazillion moose, such population as these will be in danger, very soon. And as sparse a land Newfoundland is they are coming around in populated areas. I think there is going to be a very dangerous situation in a few years.

Here in Nova Scotia, I've seen some very large coyotes but nothing like Newfoundland. At least here there is a bounty on them but it took a loss of human life from a coyote attack to prompt this. I see as many dead coyotes hit by cars on the highway as much as I do see raccoons and porcupine.

It's going to be like the seal epidemic, they will be in everyone's back yards if they are not contained or controlled.

To tell for sure I would have to see it alive and standing. Jugging by the length of the leg ether a medium size wolf or someones pet. Definitely not a Coyote the nose is wrong and the color is wrong.

Around here it's not uncomon to see 150+lbs wolves and although I've never weighed a coyote, I've seen a few almost as big as my dog... (she's a 72 lbs Lab/sheperd/coyote mix)
When you start seeing wolves and coyotes as roadkill you know the populations aren't hurting.
In the past few years I have also seen a couple of wolverines and several lynx out in populated areas in broad daylight.
I guess there's just not enough room left in the woods for all them critters.

well it was confirmed today......it`s a Labrador Wolf ......the first known to be in Newoundland since 1930!....too bad it was killed as it may have been the start of a predator for those pesky coyotes we are being over-run with the last few years .....here is a link to the latest story.......http://www.vocm.com/newsarticle.asp?mn=2&id=23461&latest=1.......the hunter better have a wolf license or Wildlife might be after him now ...LOL!
