Re: Coyote , Wolf or Hybrid ?.......82 pounds ?
Newfoundland is certainly prime country for coyotes and wolves and other animals. I saw many coyotes when I lived there and they were definitely in their own league as far as size go. I believe you have a picture of a wolf kill and Newfoundland does not need that. I've also seen lynx the size of a big dog and I thought the first one I saw was a baby caribou. Such natural foods as a million rabbits, unlimited supply of spruce grouse, mice, moles certainly keep the coyote population healthy. And with a gazillion moose, such population as these will be in danger, very soon. And as sparse a land Newfoundland is they are coming around in populated areas. I think there is going to be a very dangerous situation in a few years.
Here in Nova Scotia, I've seen some very large coyotes but nothing like Newfoundland. At least here there is a bounty on them but it took a loss of human life from a coyote attack to prompt this. I see as many dead coyotes hit by cars on the highway as much as I do see raccoons and porcupine.
It's going to be like the seal epidemic, they will be in everyone's back yards if they are not contained or controlled.
