Crack in Aluminum boat

Hi guys looking for input. I have a 15' aluminum flatbottom boat that I bought over the winter and I was rewiring my trailer when I noticed a small bulging crack in the front side of the boat. Without getting into cutting and welding I was wondering if my best bet was to wire brush down to metal then tap the bulge in and fill it with marine grade JBweld. I'll try and get a picture so you see what I'm working with. Looking for other ideas for a fix.

Thanks.

Ps can't do anything to the inside because it is carpeted.

Above the water level maybe JB Weld, below the water level I'd get it welded on the outside....a good welder can run a nice bead right on that crack in just a few minutes...

You could apply a aluminum patch piece sealed with 5200 and rivets...

First you need to drill a hole at each end of the crack to keep it from getting longer. I would get the crack welded but more importantly why is it bulging?

Re: Crack in Aluminum boat

There was some water in the front storage witch is where the crack is so I believe the water froze and created the crack. JMO!

Re: Crack in Aluminum boat

My uncle is a welder and I talked to him and he is going to look at it. I wanted to try to fix it on my own with the JB weld because I don't like asking for favors but after hearing all the input I asked and he is going to look at it. I just want it to get it fixed the right way so I can worry about how much fish I will catch and not how to get in the water! So thank everyone for your input!
