I have a 96 sea ray 190 br. A fat kid stepped on my engine cover, the one that is in between the two rear jump seats and put some cracks in it. What is the best way to repair these. I know I can use fiberglass resin, but how do i get the color to match?

If it is WHITE then get a GELCoat repair kit and use a Dremel tool to route out the cracks. Clean them out with Acetone then mix up the GelCoat and fill em in. You will need to sand and buff but you should be able to make em almost disappear if you work at it. If it is a color then making the Gelcoat match can sometimes be difficult.

If you want the color to match you might try to get the gel coat from Sea ray,or take it to a professional. You would be suprised how many different shade of white there are.

Re: crack repair in my engine cover.

It is indeed white, my main concern was that I didnt realize you could sand and buff gel coat. My dad is actually a really good body man on cars but knows nothing about boats. A few years back on my old boat, there was an unfortunate event involving a tube that resulted in my rear ski hook being ripped right out of the back of my boat. My dad fixed this perfectly with something called tiger hair, although it was a good repair it most certianly didnt match at all. I also have a decent scratch in my hull, can i fix this in the same way?

It depends on how deep that scratch is..if its just in the gel then gel paste and spray..if its into the glass then tiger hair/fill and fair/spray sand and buff.. if the glass is damaged ..then glass.

Re: crack repair in my engine cover.

I do have to agree on the color match almost impossible but one thing I have to be amazed @ is how he cracked it my cover is almost identical to yours and the thickness of that cover is well over an inch thick and the cover is craftfully angled and contoured and sits on a well supported base of the jump seats my 23 yr,old son is a beast and wieghs 230lbs (not fat just big!) and he crawls all over that thing and does'nt faze it. How much does that kid (fat kid) wiegh? but never the less is there some other structural issue on the under side of that cover? I would look bfore finishing the repair so it doesn't happen again! Good luck.

Hi, I have 2 Evinrude motor covers that has been standing in storage in the sun for about 5 years. They have no deep cracks at the top of it that go right through. Can anyone let mr know what I can do to get them fixed or if I should get new ones ? I've read about the rubberizing to use for them but not to sure where and what it is

Would this Gelcoat work on black motor covers ?
