I recently replaced the bellows on a 1990 mercrusier 4.3. They were slightly cracked - not sure for how long. What problems could result from this condition? Is there anything to check etc.<br />Robert

Re: cracked bellows

I guess what i am asking is: What is the possible damage from running with cracked bellows?

Another thing to check for is the upper oil seal on the outdrive. If a lot of water got in the u-joint bellow, then the seal could be bad. You can tell by looking at the outdrive oil, (milky), or if there is outdrive oil in the bellow. Also, check the u-joints for rust.
