Hello. Please do not laugh me. Im looking for opinions about further repair on this classic engine. I was buy the Prostar 205V with the cracked and welded block on Vortec 5,7. The previous user was used boat normally, becouse he welded the cracks. On one side of the engine he weld it bad and there are some new cracks. Engine have very good cylinder pressure and about 300hours....the simpliest thing is drill the holes on the ends of the cracks and repair it by JB weld..... but i think if the salt water will be in the cracks - the cracks will be bigger and it will make some stress and pressure in the area. My idea is grind the hole into the block around the cracks borders ant put some metal plate over it with some silicone or aviation gasket and hold it by the screws. I think that in the current situation is the strength in the area 0 (because of cracks) and only what is left there is the pressure on the surrounding areas due to bad welding and the beginning of corrosion. If i will mill the hole here > the pressure will goes away, but there is a risk of collapsing the surface.
Please dou you have some opininon about it? Will it ruin the engine or it will work? I want safely use the engine for some years and than will buy new, but now - i was buy the boat and im without moneys
and i think that new engine is better buy with closed cooling system - together is the lot of moneys and lot of works - i must wait some years for it
