I just pulled my gimbal housing due to a worn swivel pin and seal. I took the boat out after the repair and it was taking on water at a decent rate, didn't even get it off the trailer. After some time troubleshooting with my bore scope, i determined it wasn't any of the I/Os in the housing. When i pulled it out of the water, i noticed this rather large crack in the housing. The only thing i can think happened here is that I may have over torqued the mount bolts. I am certain there was no impact of the drive while i've owned it. Has anyone seen this kind of crack before? Can it be welded? Can i just put a sealant in there and call it good? I'm a little concerned that the operating stress on the gimbal bearing will propagate the crack further. thoughts?

I can't add attachments. Here is a link to the photos. [FONT=&quot] https://goo.gl/photos/zRZ1eNmZHBcGdUqg8

Have not seen one like that cracked. Transom bolts are torqued to 23 FT LB, so over torqueing will cause some issues. Other possibilities can be from having a soft transom. In any case its my opinion that your not going to fix it, it needs replaced.

And you can upload pics after making three posts
