Hi,

had to get one of my pick up (emulsion) tubes inside a carb on a 4 cyl engine soldered as it was cracked. Is this a common occurance or does it rarely happen??

How does it happen ?? is it due to vibration?

can i stop it from happening again?

is soldering effective as i don't want to go out a buy new carbs?

just a few questions for the expert and wily experienced guys out there.....

K.

I've see it happen on quite a few 3 cyls but not on to many V-4's. If the soldering job works out, use it. You may want to check your prop and prop shaft for being true.

I saw this recently on an 88 SPL. I figured it would not cause any harm at all, due to the fact that the tubes are immersed in gas and they have holes in the sides anyway.

Is there some reason that a cracked tube is bad? Should I get that motor back and fix the tubes?

Dasel, depends on where it's cracked. If it's running okay, I'd leave it.

Cracked from bottom 1/2 inch toward the top. I would think that a soldered up crack would eventually re-crack...
This was on only one of the carbs , the top one. Bottom looked fine.

And yes, I left it, and will watch for plug problems on the top cyls...if none, it will have to do.

Thanks, B
