I am new to the boating so excuse my ignorance. I have a 1989 Mastercraft Cajun 16.5 ft Bass Boat with a Force 125. I love to boat and have had a great time with it, but I was check it over tonight (3 weeks since my last boating trip) and I noticed a couple drops of oil on the floor and a good size fracture in the front of the mid section. The fracture appears to be something from the inside of the mid section hit the outer shell from the inside. The two fractures are each 1 inch X fractures.

The motor still runs and moves the boat, at least it did when I loaded the boat. What is in the mid section besides a shaft that connects the motor to the gear box? What could have done this? How serious is it serious?

Thanks,

89CJ....for what its worth I think I saw a Force motor mid-section up for auction on Ebay today. I'm not exactly sure what size by I think it might have been a 120/125hp job.
Might be worth lookin' into.
Good luck

If you absolutely need a mid leg, I can probably do better than ebay. I have about 6 of 'em--but its heavy--shipping won't be cheap. First, be sure its the midleg cracked. You can't see much of it when the engine is assembled. It is covered in the rear by the shroud and covered in the front by the engine swivel, clamp, and mount assembly. The only part visible is about 4 inches below the shroud where the lower unit bolts up to it. That's why I asked if you could post a photo. There is nothing inside it that could crack it from the inside.

Thank you guys for your thoughts. It seems this damage is a total mystery. It is located exactly where Frank says there are no moving parts that could crack the case from the inside. It does not make sense.

Last night I dropped the lower unit and everything was fine (shaft, pump, inner casing). Looking down the engine with the hood off you can just barely see behind the damage. There are no moving parts there. No structural damage either, except for the fractures on the outer casing. So I put it back together and will test it out next week.

I really wish I knew how this happened or when. I have pictures of the damage but I don't know how to post them on this site. I will email them if you are interest. Shoot me a note at od1and@yahoo.com or tell me where I can post it on this site.

....just to follow up on that Ebay force mid-section unit. It is for a 1989 125hp unit....but he is asking $400.
Franks option sounds cheaper for sure.
Good luck
