I appreciate folks taking the time to offer their suggestions and observations. I originally posted this in a different forum and it was moved here by the moderator.
To answer YD: While having the boat serviced the previous owner just happened to be at the boat yard. When asked if he knew about the crack he said that he had had it repaired. I did call Glasstream and left a number of messages but never got a response. They still sell a model called the 242 CCX that looks the same but I have no idea what, if any, changes they've made structurally.
Part of the dilemma in investing the money to remove the T-top and center console, cut a hole in the deck and remove the gas tank is that the Merc 200 is 12 years old and while it runs fine now I don't have the crystal ball to know how much it has left. What do you think it would cost to re-power? If the repair was attempted from the outside again is there anything that might give a different result?
