Cracked lower unit!!!!!! Help!!!!!!

A friend hit a rock with motor and motor is stuck in forward. Found crack in lower unit in front of prop shaft. Replace???? Repair???? I beleive motor is a 1974 115. <br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />SJ.

Hard to say without seeing it.Is the case dented much from the impact?You may be able to locate a good used lower unit and save some time and money.

Thanks, OB....<br /><br />I am looking local for a replacement. It is cracked enough to see a gap. It froze up in drive, I beleive the grease is gone.<br /><br />SJ.

If you have a hydro-electric shift and the oil has leaked out the internal pump will not shift the gears in to neutral and will stay in foward gear. you will have to replace the lower unit or have it repaired.

I have a 1973 115 lower unit with stainless prop. In good shape.
