I bought a used Sears (Force) 15hp engine in 1991 or so with a few hours on it. Since then, I put a few more hours on it. Although it was likely born in 1990 or 1991, it's still essentially new. A few weeks ago I had to move it from where it had been stored for more than 20 years to a new location. I had it mounted on a small hand truck. Somehow I managed to position it so that as I walked away from it, the engine/hand truck fell over and hit the concrete.
The lower cowling on this engine I discovered is made of metal. I'm not sure what the metal actually is, but I'm thinking cast aluminum. There is a crack in the cowling now, and the the edges of the metal are approximately 1/2 inch from each other. This leaves an incomplete edge on the top surface where the gasket for the upper (plastic) cowling mounts. The gasket is still intact.
I'm pretty sure that if I try to persuade the two edges of the cracked area to come back together, the metal is going to crack like a potato chip. Is this injury repairable? I'd like to fix it myself, but if it's a job for a professional, I'm good with that too. I just don't know who or where that would be.
I now live in Cape Coral, Florida, although my profile states that I live in Tarrytown, NY which is where I did live when I first joined this site. I don't know how to fix that either!
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
