I have a 1984 Achilles RHIB. The Transom is cracking. At some point the previous owner beefed up the transom by placing a stainless steel plate on the inside and outside of the the transom. He drilled holes and bolted these plates on. The crack is starting at one of the bolt holes.

I would not mind replacing the transom completly, but I do not know how to remove it from the air tubes or reattach it to the tubes. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to repair or replace the transom.

Thanks

Re: Cracked Transom

Way too much work. I'd try and remove some wood where the crack is, repair that area with West system and filler, then put the plate back on, after painting it. :D A good sandwich job will be just as strong as original. Oh, and drill right through where the crack begins and ends so it won't "travel" anymore.
