Cracked Weld, Marine Tex or Marine Tex Flex?

No way the a crack should have formed in the weld like that. Whomever did the repair didn't have a clue what they where doing...

Simply welding a crack or putting a patch over it isn't going to solve the problem for long, if at all. You must address, i.e. fix the underlying structural issues before addressing the crack.

Ok I think I'm going at this two fold. No welders available for awhile.....


So West systems makes an aluminum repair 'flex' epoxy. I will inject that into the Crack, I drilled 1/8" holes in a few places and there is a small void between the hull and plate (further research shows the plate being non factory btw). Fill with epoxy as beat as possible, then 5200 a patch over it.

I agree, but it appears this plate was added post factory at some point...... Who knows why... I don't see an hull damage on the inside.

I drilled a small hole on the high side, about 1" back form the crack, Started injecting epoxy in there, I could see it coming through the crack and the first two holes. Couldn't get it to flow down to the bottom so I went from below there. The lowest (keel side) hole took A LOT, but i was able to get it to force its way out of the crack there as well. I put about 6 oz into it, A fair bit is just on the surface, but there is definitely some between the plates.

It was covered with packing tape to keep the glue in place.

Took a pretty good beating this weekend, lake was wind chopped bad. No water (other than spray!) in the bilge, no crack visible or feel-able in the epoxy. Fingers crossed.

Remember Epoxy is NOT UV resistant. If you want it to last you must put some paint over it.

Thanks WOG, was already done before I took it out.

Sanded the high spots a bit and threw some bottom paint on it.

Ugly, but it got me here and back through some nasty chop

Looks like you were up in Wenatchee/Spokane area. While you were playing I was in Yakima helping build the family friend's deck and got a nasty burn. Shouldda opted for boating... always boating.
