Alright, so I almost went with the external pickup tube but ultimately decided against it.

The 90° turn through the hull preventing easy up down adjustment could be countered with mods but then the conventional clamshell strainer cover just seemed more simple and probably better for durability bumping things and not possibly rope snagging or folding the pipe tip flat or something. The maralon strainer and thru hull just can't look right no matter what down there so I caved and ordered a 1 piece SS strainer thru hull.

Isolating this from the hull to prevent galvanic corrosion will now be the trick. Trailer queen at least. Perhaps a thin but hard gasket and tiny sleeve to isolate the threads? Hoping it isn't a problem but just feel the need for maximum impact resistance for such a critical piece. Hopefully I will be able to shoe horn it into place next to the engine down there.

Hopefully the strainer isn't big enough to be too much of a problem, I'll post up some pics of the setup once the parts arrive later today.

There are special shape SLEEVED washers that have molded flat washer on 1 end. A little trimming of the washer shape surfaces to be SLIGHTLY longer than needed. Causes a crushing and flaring of tube to form a watertight seal.

Got the raw water intake mostly installed, still waiting on the SS ball valve and a few things. Hoping this location works out. Looking at the few photos Ive ever found of a V8 Chieftain 25 at speed- this area appears to stay submerged. This was as low/as close to center as I could get it without losing access to it.
