Hey all,

I was just doing some reading, and came across that some outboards are rated at the crank and some are rated at the prop.

I have a 1989 90 Johnson V4 VRO, is that HP rate at my prop or crank??

Thanks!

Re: Crank or Prop HP?

I think you'll find that the system changed from rating at the crankshaft to rating at the prop in the late 1970s

Re: Crank or Prop HP?

Actually changed by the ICOMIA standard 28 -83.
Thought it was earlier but knew it was before I bought my 6 Hp Yachtwin. Still got the Evinrude brochure from 1984 which states that the power ratings are measured at the propshaft in accordance with Icomia 28-83.
