have you tried the spray around the side plates of carb? (DH mention them above)<br />how about the intake bolts that pass into the crank case?<br />they are supposed to be sealed also.<br />-<br />just a thought

In post 5 or 6 you said you tore it down, tore what down? You went through all this, and have yet to pull a cylinder head? Leave the front alone, look in the back.

R. Johnson, I was almost positive I had a problem with intake or crankcase leak so I went as far as splitting the case, re-seal and all new gaskets from there forward. You're right, its time to check the back now.

Boy do I feel stupid, at least I hope I'm stupid. I pulled the intake manifold and fuel ran out of the bottom fitting that goes to the check valve line. I pulled all check valves and 3 of them were leaking the wrong way. I tested them on the crankcase the other day and they tested okay but not today. I hope this is my problem.

Hoorah, it was the check valves. I cleaned them with carb cleaner until they worked right and reinstalled them . Motor fired right up, no sneezing, no excess fuel in exhaust, nice smooth idle. Now I need to put her in the water for fine tuning. I guess I learned to be a little more meticulous in testing components. I actually think that de-carbing the engine added to the problem. That's when motor rough running motor really got bad.
