Cranking Or Deep Cell Battery?

I have a Crownline 210 LS with a 5.0 fuel injected engine. I only run the radio with no amps attached.

I had the stock cranking battery for the past 4 years, and just now need a new battery. The stock battery was 650 cranking amps.

For some reason I'm having problems deciding on whether to get another cranking battery or a deep cell. I know the question has been asked here many times, and I've read multiple threads. Unfortunately, all this did was make it even more confusing.

I don't want to run two batteries at the moment, and I'm not interested in a dual purpose battery.

Which one would you recommend?

Re: Cranking Or Deep Cell Battery?

You can easily find one that is both, when your looking they will often say deep cell but have a CCA listing those are a hybrid made to do both and what most people run. I am using one from advance simply cause they honer their warranty's and its 1 block away.

I will list the one I am using as a example, look in the specifications and you will see.

You can get Marine grade deep cycle at most auto parts store or even cheaper at the big box stores Costco, Sam's club. Even the smaller marine batteries will have at least 650 CCA and usual more like 725 to 900 CCA. You will also get dual battery posts, standard clamp on and a threaded stud post with a wing nut for attaching what ever you want. Most marine batteries have beefed up terminal posts to take the addtion shock impact from bouncing around on the water.

Happy boating.

With your battery requirements, I would not be to concerned with the labeling on the battery, i.e. cranking, dual-purpose, deep cycle. Buy the cheapest marine battery with the cranking amps or cold cranking amps you require and all will be well.
