Has anyone any ideas for repairing a crank where the stainless drive shaft has just spun inside the crank?

I think it's a case of replacing the crank but that's going to be expensive even if I could track down a used one.

The crank is out of the engine and it's a low very low hours engine. 3Cylinder twin carb 70 circa '84.

Thanks for anyone's experience in this area or even details of where I could get used crank.

Dave

is it a pressed crank or a one-piece? if it's pressed then maybe you could get a crank with trashed bearings and just replace the driveshaft end? A motorbike shop will be able to press apart and re-press it for you quite cheaply.

There's been a couple of trash 65hp triples on ebay UK recently. might be worth a look. If it's the same crank as the 50hp triple clamshell blueband there's one on there right now.

It's one piece. I just had to toss a I6 crank last week for the same problem.

Used cranks (and powerheads)appear on Ebay....

Also try the NNTP (usenet) Inline board... a lot of those fellers have parts motors of all types.

-W

Re: Crankshaft Drive Splines toast

Thanks guys for your comments. From rebuilding bike twostokes I'd expected to see a pressed together crank which would have provided the option of replacing that piece of the shaft or at the very least removing it to allow options like welding/inserting it/etc. Unfortunately the sight of end-caps on the big-ends sank that thought. As Clams said it's a forged one piece meaning a new, well used, crank.

I'd have been amazed if anyone could have suggested a fix but given the ingenuity shown here all the time it was well worth asking. Thanks again for trying.

They can be repalced although I dont know anyone over there that does it. Theres a guy here in Florida thats been doing it for years. I'm sure shipping makes it out of the question from over there.
