'Crappy' Start to the day - Darn Toilet

I work on the opposite side of the city, and in no traffic it takes 30 mins to commute

So my phone rings at 9am, its my 12 yr old daughter. She tells me the toilet is leaking. I ask where and she indicates at the back. So I get her to turn off the water to the toilet.

She then tells me the floor is full of water, and she's going to clean up all the water that's on the bathroom tile.

Finally, she says that she went downstairs to the kitchen (below the bathroom) and found wet spots. Off to home I went.

Here is what I found. (sorry for the quality, taken with Blackberry)

The bad news is I have water damage.
The good news is my daughter was home and caught it before it became a BIG problem
The great news is my wife will finally get pot lights installed in the kitchen like she wanted.

Turns out the tank bolt had loosened and leaked. New bolts, washers, and seal installed and double nut installed to prevent future issue (along with the other upstairs toilet)

Well the bright side is that now you have something to do this weekend.....

Sorry, but you have to hand your 9 YO some nice credit on being observant, calling Dad, and following directions on turning off the water.

Good Luck

BTW. I have started showing my kids where shut offs etc are now that they are old enough to be at home.

Good idea. I think I'll do that when I get home.

I'll be getting a professional to fix my ceiling (at least the mudding/taping)

I'm also showing my daughter the shutoff for the water main too, just in case. Good thing for kids to know

He is in Ontario, not BC (canadian joke).
Glad to hear it was the holding tank leaking and not the donut at the floor drain.

Ahhh...good old BC skunk!!! :D:D

Yup, pretty happy with the limited damage. Pretty much contained to a reasonable area and dried out by this morning (I think the +34 temps are helping suck up the moisture)
