Re: Craving a Beer Lately

I don't think I would consider you an alcoholic, but I guess everyone has a different view of one. I have family that are to this day alcoholics. I'm talking functioning alcoholics. Black out drunk all week/weekend, but will get up and go to the work the next day. As soon as works out, a 30 pack goes down between the two (sometimes more) and it back to black out town...

Thats not to say drinking less wouldn't be considered an alcoholic, but your situation sounds like you have some moments you would like to forget associated with alcohol. If you feel you can drink a few with the guys, loosen up, have a good time, but keep it under control, then why not? If you think it will lead into a fit of needing to drink more and more, I say try and stick it out.

Some of my most fun has been at the bar drinking with friends. Some of the least fun I have had, has been at the same bar, same friends stone cold sober (designated driver). Bars suck when your not sharing in the "fun". :D

I played music in bars for 30 years. I drank everything/anything I could get ahold of. One day I just up and said I'd had enough. Now it's just beer on occassion.

Re: Craving a Beer Lately

When I was in my 20's, I drank enough for 2 people about every night for a couple of years. I knew I was getting to dependant on the alcohol. I quit my job working in bars and that was the first step in making my habit come to a halt. I got married and started a family which then limited my drinking tremedously. With raising my family, drinking was not a priority and never got too intoxicated to know what was going on. The first time I actually got to falling down drunk was after my 3rd divorce was final. That was a 12 year span of keeping control. That was in 1995. Since then I have been that was 2 times. Once on 7 July 97 and during a fish fry in 2009.

I can't say I have a drinking problem as I do put a limit on how much and often when I did drink.
Right now I like the idea of saying I have a time period in which I haven't taken a drink. I'm sure if I did, it would not control me.

Does drinking hard cider considered drinking :D

Well, I've had hard cider that was 7.2% and it made for a heckuva buzz.

FYI Alcohol withdrawl is the only substance withdrawl you can die from, not crack, meth, cocaine. Just know how powerful it is.

I don't know man, you should have been around when me and the wife both decided to stop smoking at the same time. that goodness she was pregnant or else I think she would have killed me, oflmao!!!!!!!! It's been 17 months and I still crave it, especially when I smell someone else smoking, but all I have to do is go over and pick up my baby boy and it all goes away.

As SS said before I too drank enough for 2. Since we started our family I too have settled down but my difference is I will enjoy an ice cold one from time to time. Good luck and if you are ever in the lake erie area west of cleveland, it would be good to meet a fellow iboater.

Re: Craving a Beer Lately

Every once in a while I get that same crave for an ice cold beer, usually in a social setting, were others are doing the same. Drinking in general just isn?t my cup of tea; I hate the idea of getting a hang over, and possibly loosing a day recovering, love the buzz, and love the effects. I watch most of my friends, and my own past experience enough to know, I just don?t like it, when it goes past 3-4 beers or drinks. If you decided not to drink for what ever reason, just make sure your next choice is one you can live with and not feel anything other than what you wanted.

Re: Craving a Beer Lately

This thread has degenerated into a "I don't drink...I used to drink...I have never drank" self help forum!

The original poster (who has not returned, as far as I can see) only said that he missed a cold one every once in awhile...and that is hardly a confession of being an alcoholic. I submit that he is an adult, and as such, can decide for himself if he can handle a beer when the occasion arises...and doesn't need us to monitor his behavior.

Let's not become self righteous, nay saying, judgmental do-gooders!

Happy boating!

Re: Craving a Beer Lately

My wifes youngest brother died from excessive drinking at the age of 42. Even when I did drink on occassions, it would make her feel uneasy. Maybe that is the true reason I refrain from it. However, this year I spend the weekends on the boat without her since she works every weekend.

This coming weekend is my "Dock Two Fish Fry" that I put on. It is a special event and I think I just might take up an offer from the guy next to me that drinks Samual Adams. Never had it, but everyone who has tried it seems to give comments about it.

BTW,,just for the fun of it, I changed my signature. I got the idea off the poster on the houseboat that is catty corner from my boat. I think it is true :D

I don't drink any more. Of course, I don't drink any less either...

Putting a hold on my own wallet, since I have a month and a half to come up with winter storage fees for a 40ft boat, but up until last night it was a couple beers with lunch in a bar before work, and then a few more when I get out until last call.

Love beer. Keeps me healthy!
