back in the seventies the whole family used to go camping at lak la nonne. (central alberta canada) we had huge tents and left them set up all season. we were launchung our trusty wooden 14 footer with a 30 johnston on it. it was a one lane boat launch so we launched quick tied the boat up out of the way on the far dock and proceeded to load the boat with our various fishing gear. 6 of us in the boat.
this guy drives up with his newer 17 foot fiberform and stops with his trailer about three feet in the water. out of the truck jumps his boys. one about 5 the other mabe 7.
for some reason all of us were in the boat just sitting at the other dock watching. motor running. just watching.
the guy climbes on the bow of his boat, grabs the long bow line and walks to the end of the pier, hands the rope to his oldest son and says what ever you do dont let go of the rope!
he gets in his truck floors it backwards, slams on the brakes, them throws it into drive and punches it outta the launch!
we sat in horror as we watched the rope on the dock uncoil. that poor little kids eyes went wide as he was launched into the air, musta flew ten feet!
we couldnt help but laugh our a@@es off.
as we left the dock to pick up the screaming kid...he still thinks he did somthing wrong...his dad slinks on to the dock to see how hes gonna live this one down and wether his boy is drowned or not. we pull this hysterical kid into the boat and wrapped him in a towel. then proceed to rescue the guys boat, it had drifted about 35 feet from the dock and was starting to make its way toward the creek! we were still laughing, in tears at that point. the kids cryin, my mother is tring to warm him and tell him he didnt do anything wrong. and genius is on the dock watching his fiberform headding for the rapids! well we grabbed his boat in time, towed it to the dock. all the guy could say is thankyou. we were still hysterical! we laughed ourselves sick for the next three hours.
we caught lots of perch that morning. every once in a we would all go silent as we tried to concentrate on feelilg the fish bite, them someone would burst out laughing and away we go again for another 10 minits, im pretty sure my mom peed herself cause she was wearin that wet towel we wrapped the kid in when she got outta the boat. that happened 35 years ago and it still cracks the family up!

Now I had some experiences like that way back when, but I may have been smoking the old Wacky Terbacky at the time. Always made the hilarious into the uncontrollably hilarious. Now I don't suppose you and your mom were.........

What a moron...Jeopardizing his kid like that. That kids a grown man by now and hope he's turned the tide on his dad.

A guy at the gym told me that, that's all he does sometimes when the fish ain't bitin'. He just anchors away from the dock and watch all the people launch. There are some hysterical moments and sometimes even fist fights breakout. I told him he should video tape them and send to America's Funniest Videos.

I do that all the time.
There are seats under shade trees by the ramp and I will load up and park my unit and grab a cold drink and go sit under the trees and just watch.
It is something else what you will see on a busy day.:D

Re: crazest thing i ever saw!

I live on the East Coast of Florida. In Cape Canaveral, there is a local rest/bar which overlooks the city's largest public boat launch. The outside bar is called "Boat Ramp Follies" People literally line up along the rails watching the public launch and retrieve their boats. Some are better than others of course.

On most weekends, there is a LOOOOOOONG waiting line of people (in trucks) waiting to put in or pick up their boat. What really pisses people off is the guy who puts his boat into position to launch, then he proceeds to move the wife, kids, coolers, fishing poles, animals, grill, Mom, Grandma, and mother in law into the boat before he finally pushes the boat into the water. Then, he goes and parks the trailer. Of course, he has neglected to tie off the stern of the boat to the dock. Naturally, the stern swings out and the boat turns sideways taking up two of the launch spaces. When the gentleman finally returns after finding a parking spot a half mile away, he sees his family sitting in the boat while a several dozen other boaters stare him down and start cussing at his stupidity. Once he finally gets the boat straight in the ramp, he turns to his slightly overweight wife with a one piece bathing suit (with a built-in skirt) and asks her: "Where are the keys?"

Yea and the ones with longgggggggggggggggggg bow lines take up the whole ramp by the time they get back. :)
The best one I have seen and it has been a few years back, was and older man and woman came to the ramp, parked in the lot and got everything ready to go.
Older lady got in boat, Ranger I/O Bass boat, yikes, and the older man went to put her in the water and there was this guy and his wife and kids on the ramp.
They were trying to load and he had his truck and trailer all sideways on the ramp and had it blocked where these two older people could not get backed in.
Well, let me tell you that older lady laid in on him and in a matter of seconds he had his truck pulled up out of the way.
I'm telling you, a fly would not have lit on him after she got done.
They backed in, she fired that bad boy up, sounded real good, and she got it off the trailer and waited for hubby to come down and get in, she still driving, and away they went.
In a flash they were outa sight.
Then and only then, the guy went to doing it all over again and there he went, all sideways again and I had seen enough and went down there and ask him if I could help and the wife said "Sure", so I got in the truck and got it straight for him so they could get loaded up and get outa there before them older people came back. :)

This sentence reminded me of one i saw about 15 years ago in Tampa Bay harbor, wasnt at the launch but was pretty stupid. I was on a 650' tanker coming into the bay when we saw a group of small boats anchored right in the middle of the ship channel fishing,NOT SMART, well they all saw us coming and hightailed it away pretty quick except for one that was taking longer to get going, Wwell when I looked through the binoculars I could see the old man frantically trying to get the motor started wjhile his wife, who had to be in her 50s and a little more than slightly overweight was heaving her heart out on the anchor in her blue and purple flowered one piece with the skirt. Can still picture itr clearly today. They were able to get clear in time but please let this be a reminder to everyone who reads this to use caution with where you anchor!

That reminds me of a video I seen over the internet where a couple of old men were out in a jon boat in the middle of the lake. One old man fishing the other sound asleep, the next thing ya know a plane comes down to land on the water and wouldn't ya know that the old men were right in the way of the planes course. LOL the old man that was alert and aware of what was happening woke his friend up and then they tried to get the old outboard started and of course couldn't get it cranked. The plane came up a few feet away from where the boat was and descended back up into the air. The old men were ducking for cover thinking they were both history lol, but both came out of the ordeal unharmed. I don't know if this really happened or if it was a commercial honestly but it was pretty funny. I'll half to try and find that video and post it.

That clip is a scene from the movie "Always", the seaplane is a fire-fighting tanker re-loading the water tank to go drop on a fire.

Hmmm, interesting. Somehow it made its way onto the internet. I don't recall seeing it on TV. But that makes sense, still sort of funny though, I guess people would be laughing at me also because I would of dove into the water off of my boat lol. Be my luck that the plane wouldn't take back off and run all over my little boat, then I get sucked up into the water tank of the plane and dropped on the fire lol.

I guess descending back up into the air really isn't the right term for it lol, It didn't dawn on me that I screwed up trying to explain that until today.

Re: crazest thing i ever saw!

This was talked about in a previous thread, let's see if this is the same video you saw.......:

If so, that was a funny funny scene from a fairly serious movie about fighting wildfires from the air, neat show.

The first clue that this one is "staged" is the perfect line of sight angle from the main shot, then the fact that is has footage from another camera angle edited in to show the guy's faces as they scramble to get the engine started. I recognized it from the movie when I saw it on youtube or whatever the first time. It is a classic.

Yep that was the video. I guess I was wrong once again because the guys did take a dive after all. I believe my brother sent that to me by email a while back that is how I recall seeing it.

Re: crazest thing i ever saw!

There is a tale about someone finding a man, completely suit up for scuba diving, in an scene from a recent wild fire. There goes to explain that the man was probably diving in the lake where one of them airplanes dove to get water. Again, is not real but it ran all over the internet.

The scuba wildfire urban legend was actually even covered on MythBusters. Funny, but not true.

The scuba / wildfire scenario was one of the plotlines from CSI a couple seasons back.
